The club’s intermediate synchronised skating team Synergy, is competing at the 2013 Skate Canada National Synchronised Skating Championships in Calgary this week. The event is hosting close to 900 skaters and coaches on 48 teams from across the country that will compete for Canadian titles in the senior, junior, open, intermediate, and novice categories. After their first skate they were in twelfth place, scoring 36.72. They improved in their second skate scoring 37.35, and likely will finish 12th overall. Twelfth place equals their best placing in four trips to Nationals, but represents an improvement in that they were competing in a larger field (16), and for the first time finished ahead of two teams from traditional synchro powerhouse Quebec.
Congratulations to club member Nicole Burt (and former Synergy skater) whose Nexxice Senior team captured their 7th straight Canadian Championship, and qualified for Worlds.

Princettes- Cornel Trophy
The 2013 Synchronized Skating Championships were held 16 February at the Jack Byrne Arena in Torbay, NL hosted by the club. Congratulations to the Princettes who won the gold in juvenile and were awarded the Cornell Trophy as best team. This is the fourth time a team from the club has won the trophy (Princelles in 1989, Synergy in 2009 and 2011). Synergy had a good skate as single entrants and were voted the Butt Trophy (most spirited and sporting team) by the other teams in the competition (last won by the Princelles in 2001). InSync won a bronze in Adult 2. Symmetry were single entries in Adult 1, but skated well with a score of 44.15, the fourth highest total in the competition. Our other teams had excellent skates. The Lollipops were fourth in a strong beginner 1 group, and the Princelles were also fourth out of seven strong teams in Pre-novice. The Popstars finished 5th in elementary but were only 0.8 points behind the silver medalists. Thanks to co-chairs Dana Boutcher and Kim French, plus all the volunteers for a fantastic competition.
