
Christine and Kim- outgoing and incoming presidents
At the Prince of Wales Skating Club Annual General Meeting a new executive was elected. Kim French takes over as President, and the club thanks Christine Morgan for her leadership of the club for the past three years. We also thank our departing executive members, in particular Susan Thistle who has been on the board for over 10 years, with four years as president. There are some vacant positions on the executive, so please contact us if you are interested in helping run the club.

The Prince of Wales Skating Club Office will be closed for the Summer beginning May 1, 2010 and will re-open on August 2, 2010.
Fall 2010 program registration information will be posted on this website during the second/third week of August.

At the Skate Newfoundland & Labrador Awards banquet, Dylan Short was named competitive Athlete of the Year. The late Joe Chapman (one of our club’s founders) and Agnes Thistle (club volunteer for over 40 years) were inducted into the SCNL Hall of Fame. The club was named to the Skate Canada CanSkate Challenge Hnour roll in recognition of the growth of our Canskate programme this year.
Congratulations to Ashley Morgan pass her gold freeskate this week. In addition, Kaitlin Harte passed her Pre-Novice competitive test, and Kayla Kennedy passed her gold freeskate elements
The club’s ice show “An Olympic Tribute” was a great success, featuring some great skating and presentation of the annual awards. The Progamme Assistant of the year award went to Sarah-Jane Downton, and the PA award of excellence to Nicole Burt and Yvonne Chan. The CanPowerskate Program Assistant of the Year Award went to Chad Carter. The John Hall volunteer award recipient was Ruth Noel. Cathy Russell from Bank of Montreal presented BMO Spirit of Canskate Medals to Jena Dyer and Sarah Pace; and the BMO Canskater of the Year Award to Anna Carter. The Olivia Burke Memorial CanPowerskater of the Year award was presented to Ryan Maher.

The Newfoundland & Labrador Winter games took place in Grand Falls-Windsor, March 20-23, 2010. Congratulations to all our skaters! Maggie Walsh won gold in Junior Silver, Kayla Kennedy placed 2nd in Open Women, Nicole Chan won a bronze medal in PreNovice, Dylan Short won bronze in Open Men, and Gillian Bowering finished 4th in Junior Bronze. Philip McDermott won gold and Sandy Walsh silver in Senior Bronze men.

Synergy
Synergy, Prince of Wales Skating Club’s intermediate synchro team competed at the 2010 BMO Skate Canada Synchronized Skating Championships. They are the first team from Newfoundland and Labrador to skate at nationals since 2003, and we believe the first team from Prince of Wales. They scored 39.19 in their first skate, and in their second skate they improved to score 45.28, for a total of 64.88.
