At the 2012 Skate Canada Challenge Competition in Regina, Saskatchewan, Julia Mercer and Spencer Buchanan (representing Quebec) placed 6th place in Novice pairs with a score of 78.33; they will advance to skate at Junior Canadians in January in Moncton.
Kaitlin Hart and Nicole Chan skated in PreNovice women. In the long programme Kaitlin had another good skate, scoring 34.84, 54.74 overall. Nicole scored 33.10, 53.93 in total. In the short, Nicole had an excellent skate, with just a minor touch down on her double flip, scoring 20.83, placing 37th. Kaitlin also skated well, scoring 19.90 and placing 43rd.
Julia Mercer placed 30th in Junior women, scoring 89.92 (a provincial record). Former club member Stephanie Fagan also skated in Junior women, representing Nova Scotia and placed 42nd. Ashley Morgan finished 32nd in a field of 52 Novice women. Dylan Short scored 59.40 to place 24th in Pre Novice men.

Club member Julia Mercer competed at the Competition Invitation Souvenir Maurice-Richard 2011 November 24 – 27th in the Junior Women category. She finished in 3rd place, with a score of 83.31.

Our Sectionals skaters
Prince of Wales skaters captured two sectional championships at the 2012 Skate Canada Newfoundland and Labrador Sectionals event. Ashley Morgan won gold in Novice women, and Kaitlin Harte took the Pre Novice crown. In addition Dylan Short had two excellent skates as a single entrant in Pre Novice men, setting a provincial record with a score of 63.56. Ashley, Kaitlin and Dylan will be joined at the Skate Canada Challenge event to be held in Regina by Nicole Chan who placed 4th in PreNovice, and Julia Mercer who received a bye in Junior women. Breauna Miller had an excellent competition finishing 5th in PreNovice. In Juvenile Jenny Biles finished 5th and Amber Boutcher 8th. In PreJuvenile, Mikayla Downey placed 4th, Serena Piercey 10th, Elin Maskova 13th, and Taylor Druken 14th.

Julia and Spencer, silver medalists
Julia Mercer competed at the 2012 Quebec Sectional Championships Nov 10 – 13th in Sherbrooke QC as a guest skater in the Junior Women event, scoring 85 points. Julia and new pairs partner Spencer Buchanan competed Novice Pairs at the same competition and won a silver medal scoring 84.35 points.

Club member Barbara Kate Cavell took part in the “Lace Up for Heart Health” fund-raiser held November 6, at Mile One Stadium. She met Olympic silver medalist Elizabeth Manley and was fortunate enough to pick up some tips in a group lesson.
