Adult

August 11th, 2012

Whether you want to learn to skate, or improve your existing skating skills we have the programme for you. We have learn to skate programmes tailored specifically for those 17 and older, with coaching entirely by our professionals. Several of our adult skaters have gone on from our adult programme to join our Masters synchro team, the STARSkate/Adult programme and even compete.

Adult CanSkate

This session operates on Wednesday evenings at Feildian Gardens, and teaches the Canskate programme. CanSkate is a basic learn-to-skate program that can accommodate a range of abilities from those who are complete beginners up to those with some skating skills who wish to improve. Skaters learn at their own pace through badge levels. There will be professional coaching to help skaters progress at their own pace. Helmets are compulsory up to Stage 5 (or on coach’s recommendation).

Advanced adult

This program is designed for skaters 17 and over who can benefit from skating on full ice, rather than in the limited space available on our Monday night adult sessions. Adult skaters are generally uncomfortable skating on normal junior / senior sessions because of the age and size difference with younger skaters. It would suit:-

  • those who have reached the advanced level of our adult learn-to-skate programmes
  • former figure skaters who wish to continue to skate
  • skaters on synchronized skating teams who would like time to practice individual skills.

The sessions will be of mixed ability. Former skaters should be of preliminary level or higher. Skaters from our current adult session should consult with the coach as to whether this programme would suit them. Skaters registered with other clubs are welcome, and the $32.65 Skate Canada registration fee will be waived with proof of current registration.

A professional coach will be present at all sessions to provide general supervision, and if required, group lessons. Skaters are welcome to arrange private coaching if desired. Numbers will be limited to a maximum of 20. Skaters should be aware of the fact that one end of the ice surface will be used for the teen CanSkate programme, which may restrict dance. Helmets are recommended but optional.
